Report from Essex Restricted Tournament

Posted by Simon Gilhooly

The Essex Restricted tournament was held at Harlow Leisure Zone over the weekend 1st/2nd October with several C&EE Federation players participating. The size and quality of the entry was down on previous years but there were good performances from several young rising stars.

Outstanding performance of the weekend came from Emma Skingsley who collected three titles. Danny Plant of Frenford had a successful weekend picking up the Mixed title with partner Emma Skingsley and reaching the final of the Men's Doubles with Ian Smith of Epping, which was won by Malaysian stars Yee Guan Yap and Tu Sang. Young Robert Golding surprised last year's winner of the Men's Singles, Ben Barber, but failed to overcome Eddie Chow in the final.

Welcome to the 2011 / 2012 Season

Mixed Doubles silver medalists - Chris Adcock & Imogen Bankier Welcome to the beginning of the new badminton season and welcome to the new look Federation website. All the essential information has been carried across from the old site, including the invaluable Fixtures and League Tables and I hope we can provide further useful information about badminton in our area.

The league fixture meeting was held last Tuesday so your club fixture secretary should soon be handing out the dates for your matches. I was disappointed to hear that additional clubs / teams have withdrawn from our competition, especially the sad demise of Colchester, one of our oldest clubs.

On a happier note it was great to see the British pair Adcock & Bankier do so well in the Badminton World Championships recently. The arena at Wembley was buzzing when they played their games; hopefully a taste of what we can look forward to in the Olympics. One of the benefits of BADMINTON England membership is the ability to get discount tickets, in fact free tickets were available for the first day of the World Championships. Tickets for the All England next year have just gone on sale to members only so you can secure the best seats in the house.
